My grandmother taught me to knit when I was about 4 years old. Living in the south of Portugal, at a time when there was only black & white TV (and only a few hours a day), the main form of entertainment was crafts. All these ladies would come over to the house and there was a whirlwind of crafty activity: my grandmother loved to paint (oil on canvas but also on glass and fabric), there was crocheting, cross-stitching, rug hooking, you name it. I learnt just about every single one but have always preferred knitting and needlepoint.
When I got pregnant, I, started thinking of knitting "in small scale". Apparently every knitter knits children items but I had never done that. I never really liked any patterns I saw and, to be fair, I knew no-one with babies. But then I discovered Phildar. These catalogues need to be ordered from France and even though I can read French, I certainly couldn't read French Knitting lingo - but they were too cute to pass up, so I "decoded" the lingo! I mean, how could you not knit these??
