Vintage Child Rocking Chair Make Over!

One of the advantages of living in Litchfield County is that in the Summer, there are estate, tag and backyard sales everywhere, almost every weekend. All you have to do is keep an eye out for signs on the main roads or read the local papers.

This chair was a find at one of those sales, last Summer. It looked hideous: it was covered in a vinyl material decorated with houses and cowboys. It hardly had any padding and it looked seriously unconfortable. But I fell in love with the potential. The frame was in great condition and the original tag was still hanging underneath - it was made in a factory in Ohio and it was dated 1961. They are asking a song for it, so, obviously, I had to take it home!

It sat in my garage for a while until I decided to give it to my upholsterer. I made the insane decision of buying a white cotton denim fabric but went for it anyway. I removed the wings, painted the rocking feet, instructed my upholtered to go crazy on the comfy padding, add a skirt with open ends and piping around the arms. Et voila!!

The final result was incredible! It helps to have an upholsterer you trust, but I was still amazed at the outcome! :-) This chair will wait in the attic until my daughter is just a tad older. I do not regret the white fabric - yet, but I might at some point. I think that before then, a slipcover will be in order! ;-)
