I wanted to breastfeed. And I did. For almost ten months, until the day my daughter weaned herself off by literally pushing me away. But for the first four and a half months, I was completely miserable - and so was my baby. Probably a combination of poor latching on, poor pumping, mixed with pain, then mastitis, etc, and mostly poor guidance on the part of, oh I don't know, people who were supposed to know and guide me... the truth, that I did not know then, is that I did not have enough milk, which meant my daughter was hungry and wanted to feed more often... very often.
Then on the evening of a loong day, with my daughter crying after less than an hour of having breastfed, I called the pediatrician. I must have sounded desperate. The doctor "allowed" me to feed my baby one bottle only a day (in the evening) of formula.
We both became better beings. She drank desperately, and then we both slept six hours straight (the most in one go, had been about 2-3 hours at night). As we went along, we increased slowly the amount of formula, and I persisted with breastfeeding because I was still convinced (and still am) of the benefits, until she made the choice of not wanting it anymore.
But as soon as we started the formula, I was on the hunt for the perfect one! And after several days of looking for and calling and emailing for ingredient lists, I found it - Baby's Only Organic.
Why is it better? Because they disclosed that all of their ingredients are sourced in the USA and the formula is also made in the USA. Contrary to all other formulas which contain at least one ingredient from China, if not more, or made there. And then there was the issue of DHA - the one we bought did not have it but Natures One has since developed a formula with safe DHA. To know more, read here.
